Opening Scene…

From the get go I will be honest, writing this first post makes me think about the day I first showed up for basketball tryouts in 5th grade.  I really didn’t know what I was doing.  Not that I didn’t necessarily know anything about basketball, but I did not know about the structure of where to go, who to report to, what to expect…oh yea, and arranging a ride home.  Yes, I did not tell my parents I was going to stay for tryouts.  We’ll needless to say at the conclusion of trying out I did not have a ride and faced the awkwardness of admitting this to the coach, who was kind of uncompassionate.  I got home fine, but that feeling surfaces as I venture into this world of sharing some thoughts more publicly.  First, I’m not sure how the whole structure functions, so I’m spending some time looking at the ins and outs of WordPress and seeing what I have available to me.  Second, I don’t have a lot of time to devote to making this what I really want it to be at this point, but I wanted to get a start even if it is like being drug by a motorcycle for a few miles.  Thirdly, I’m not sure what topics that I will devote much of this blog.  Roughly, it would delve more deeply into the intellectual life and the pursuit of understanding “the good, the true and the beautiful”.  Specifically, it will deal with things that interest me in philosophy, ethics, theology and life.  Lastly, there is the fear of criticism.  Imagine that people will disagree with me?  That’s not that bad.  I hope that I can learn and foster the virtue of humility and compassion to and with those that interact here.  We’ll see…
